Posting Date = Ledger Entry dates | Document Date = Due Date Calculation | Order Date = ?

We know that the posted ledger entries are created with the Posting Date on the document. The Due Date is calculated based on the Document Date. However, I have seen that many functional consultants are unclear about using Order Date. Meaning, if the Order Date also has such use like the Posting Date and Document Date or not. So, let me clarify the most important use of the Order Date.

Price and Discount functionality is based on the Order Date.

Let's say a Special Price is applicable for a customer from 1st Dec 2023. Now, if create the document with the Document Posting or Posting Date of 1st Dec 2023, then this Special Price would not be applicable. But if we create the document with the Order Date of 1st Dec 2023, then this price will be made applicable. In the below screenshot, you can see the alert that we get when we change the Order Date in the Document Header.

There is one more use of Order Date.

The Planned Receipt Date is calculated based on the Order Date.

You can refer to the below how the Order Date plays the role or acts as the base in calculating the Planned Receipt Date.

Hope it helps! Cheers!
