Use Business Central in Microsoft Teams | Step-by-Step configuration & demonstration.

Updated: Jul 6, 2022

How to get Business Central in Teams?

1) Go to Microsoft Teams and click on the ellipsis (...). Search for Business Central app and select it from the result.

2) Click on Add to get the Business Central App in Teams.

3) An informatory message pop-up window will show up to inform you how to get started with BC in MS Teams. Click on Got it.

4) Now, you can see that the Business Central icon is showing up with other icons in the bottom.

The offered features

You are not going to get the full Business Central capability available under teams. It's not that within teams you would be able to login to BC app and navigate freely like you do in the browser.

The BC app in MS Teams provides two distinct but related features that help streamline conversations and empower users to act on their business data without leaving Teams:

  • Paste a link to any Business Central record into Teams chat, and it will expand that into a "compact card" to share with your coworkers.

In the above example, I took the URL from the browser for one of the SO in Edit Mode and pasted into Teams Chat. If you click on Pop out, it will take you to browser.

If you click on Details, the window will open in the Teams itself.

  • View the full card details in a window inside Teams, including FactBoxes and other embedded content such as charts. Edit fields, initiate workflows, and take action from the window without having to switch apps.

In the above screenshot, I pasted the URL from browser when an Item Card was open in the Veiw mode.

If you click on Details, the window will open in the Teams itself. You can update any item details from here. Also, you can navigate all the pages accessible through the same page.

Compatibility
  • The app is not intended to work with on-premises, hosted or private cloud deployments of Business Central. The only supported deployment type is Business Central online (SaaS).

  • The app is not intended to work with any versions of the Business Central service, platform or business application prior to version 17.0.X.X.

Availaibility
  • Currently available in Public Preview, from October 2020 with Wave 2 release.

  • General Availability from December 2020.

Cheers! Hope it helps!
